In a move that’s turning heads, the nonprofit healthcare giant is set to launch patient care in the first of several buildings that will form part of its dual medical hubs in the heart of Silicon Valley. Located near Levi’s Stadium and the Great America theme park, these campuses—dubbed the West Santa Clara Campus and the East Santa Clara Campus—are strategically positioned on Mission College Boulevard, just north of U.S. Highway 101. Together, they’ll span a staggering 1 million square feet, promising to reshape the healthcare landscape in the region.
And this is the part most people miss: these aren’t just any medical facilities. Sutter Health describes them as ‘flagship’ campuses, designed to offer a blend of cutting-edge care and patient-centric environments. On Monday, the organization celebrated the ribbon-cutting of the first building in its East Santa Clara campus, a 103,000-square-foot medical office at 2441 Mission College Blvd. Teresa Sarlitto, a Sutter Health vice president, raved about its design, calling it ‘a beautiful building with a warm, soothing, and healing environment.’ But the real question is: will this environment translate into better health outcomes for patients?
The East Campus, totaling 300,000 square feet, will focus on comprehensive primary care, pediatric services, and urgent care for both adults and children. It’s also set to house an advanced diagnostic lab and specialty clinics in fields like cardiology, neurology, and endocrinology. Sutter is leasing this three-building campus from the Sobrato Organization, with patient services scheduled to begin on October 20. The first specialty clinic is expected to open in 2026, though some critics wonder if this timeline is overly ambitious.
Meanwhile, the West Campus, a whopping 700,000 square feet, will specialize in orthopedics, sports medicine, cancer care, women’s health, and heart and vascular services. Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group is already recruiting over 100 physicians and advanced practice clinicians to staff the first building alone.
